Victor Osimhen has established himself as one of the most potent goalscorers in European football during his time with Napoli in Serie A.

The Nigeria striker joined the Partenopei in 2020 and helped fire them to their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona in 2022/23, scoring 31 goals in 39 games in all competitions for his club side.

While Napoli have struggled since that title triumph, Osimhen remains a man in demand. A finalist at the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2024, the 25-year-old continues to be linked with a move away from Italy ahead of the 2024/25 season gets underway.

Chelsea have long been linked with a bid for the player and most recently it's been reported that a <a href="https://www.sportingnews.com/us/premier-league/news/chelsea-napoli-work… deal could be on the cards, involving Romelu Lukaku.

Paris Saint-Germain, who still <a href="https://www.sportingnews.com/us/soccer/news/kylian-mbappe-real-madrid-c…; target="_blank">need to replace Kylian Mbappe this year, have also been credited with an interest in Osimhen.

The Sporting News looks at the details of Osimhen's Napoli contract, including that all-important release clause, as teams consider whether to tempt the forward into a move.

Victor Osimhen contract, release clause, salary

In December 2023, Osimhen signed a new contract with Napoli that runs until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Victor & Napoli together until 2026 💙 pic.twitter.com/Gs0WVckkBw</p>
— Official SSC Napoli (@sscnapoli) <a href="https://twitter.com/sscnapoli/status/1738553624786051546?ref_src=twsrc%… 23, 2023

That might seem a strange move for a player who looks to have achieved everything he can at the club and is eyeing up a possible transfer, but there was a good reason behind Osimhen's decision to extend.

Not only did the new deal see Osimhen's salary nearly double to a reported €10 million ($10.85m) per season, the contract also contains a release clause, which is said to be between €120m and €130m.

Should a team be willing to pay that clause in 2024, Napoli would be unable to stop their star striker from leaving — although a nine-figure fee would of course enable them to invest in the playing squad to a significant degree.

Victor Osimhen net worth

Osimhen's net worth is unclear and the subject of much online speculation, but realistic estimates place it between $10 million and $12 million.

He would stand to earn approximately $27m if he stayed at Napoli for the duration of his current contract.

How much did Napoli sign Victor Osimhen for?

Napoli signed Osimhen from French club Lille in July 2020.

Club president <a href="https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/37585666/napoli-sign-forward-osi…; target="_blank">Aurelio De Laurentiis told La Gazzetta dello Sport that Napoli would pay an initial fee of €70 million, with a further €10m due in bonuses, making Osimhen the club's record signing.

The Serie A side would stand to make a profit of at least €40m should a team agree to pay Osimhen's release clause in 2024.
