Barcelona are confident Ilkay Gundogan will remain at the club for the 2024/25 season.

The veteran midfielder joined on a free transfer from Manchester City last summer but his future has been placed in the spotlight in recent weeks.

Gundogan has openly indicated his desire to play in Turkey before retirement, but the 33-year-old claimed that was a long-term goal for the final years of his career.

He updated fans following a trip to Turkey earlier this month claiming the visit was for personal reasons as the transfer rumour mill kicked into overdrive.

The rumours have continued to grow, and he was omitted from Barcelona's opening game of the La Liga campaign this weekend, as Robert Lewandowski's double sealed a 2-1 win at Valencia.

La Blaugrana head coach Hansi Flick was asked about the latest on the former Borussia Dortmund star at full time and he is positive over their ongoing link.

"He didn't play tonight as he hurt his eye in the Joan Gamper Trophy against Monaco", as per quotes from Marca

"I've spoken to him about many things, but that's between him and me, we have a good relationship. I have the feeling he will stay."

Up next for Flick and Barcelona is a first home game under his leadership as Athletic Bilbao head to Catalonia on August 24.
