Larissa Pacheco - PFL
(PFL MMA)

Following her upset win over Kayla Harrison last season, Larissa Pacheco is ready to repeat as a PFL champion. In a new weight class, Pacheco will face Julia Budd at PFL 2 on April 7 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The event will feature featherweights and heavyweights.

Pacheco turned pro in 2012 and is a former Jungle Fight bantamweight champion. Joining the PFL in 2019, she lost to Harrison in her first fight. Later that season, Harrison beat her again in the finals. Since then, Pacheco has won six in a row, including a revenge win over Harrison in the 2022 finals at lightweight.

Comfortable now at featherweight, Pacheco would only be interested in competing against Harrison again, who is not in the tournament, if the circumstances made sense.

“If they offer me a great purse, or at least something equivalent to what they offer her, I would obviously [do it],” Pacheco told MMA Fighting. “But am I going to wait for her to decide when she wants to fight? PFL offered me a spot in the season, so I took it.”

Budd turned pro in 2010 and has faced the likes of Amanda Nunes, Germaine de Randamie, Ronda Rousey, and Cris Cyborg. In 2017, she won the Bellator featherweight title, and after losing it to Cyborg in 2020, the Canadian star has gone 2-3 in her last five fights. Joining the PFL in 2021, she is 1-2 with the promotion, and her last bout was a split decision loss to Aspen Ladd in November.

The original main event was to have been 2022 heavyweight winner Ante Delija vs. Yorgan De Castro, but the former pulled out due to injury. Instead, De Castro faces Denis Goltsov, while 2021 PFL champion Bruno Cappelozza faces Matheus Scheffel. The event will also see Aspen Ladd, Maurice Greene, Amber Leibrock, and Biaggio Ali Walsh (the grandson of Muhammad Ali) in action.
