The Minnesota Vikings' wide receiver situation is set as long as Justin Jefferson is healthy, but they drafted Jordan Addison to be a complement to the NFL's best receiver.

The Vikings won't have as many reps of Addison as they'd like, however. The rookie is expected to miss the second week of the NFL preseason with concussion symptoms, although Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell doesn't seem especially concerned with his status.

O'Connell said Addison is working through concussion protocol and could return as early as Monday.

Addison, a product of Pitt and USC, was taken 23rd overall by the Vikings. One of the more highly-touted receivers in this year's draft, this is the second injury he has dealt with this offseason. He also missed some time in May with an injury O'Connell was vague about, though he did deem it "nothing serious at all" per NBC Sports.

What is Jordan Addison's injury?

Addison is combating a concussion, O'Connell confirmed Wednesday.

"Jordan Addison — part of a two-minute drill the other day — just kinda making a catch going to the ground. Just had some very very light symptoms," O'Connell told reporters. "We deemed it worthy just to be smart with him, and he's currently in the [concussion] protocol, working his way already through that right now. And expecting to have him as early as potentially Monday."

O'Connell didn't confirm Addison is concussed, but rather that he showed enough symptoms for the Vikings to exercise caution.

Is Jordan Addison playing this week?

The Vikings play the Titans on Saturday, so Addison will not be playing this week.

O'Connell said he doesn't expect Addison to return until Monday, so that would rule him out. However, Addison should be good for the Vikings' Week 1 game Sep. 10 against the Buccaneers barring an unforeseen setback.

Jordan Addison injury history

As a rookie, Addison's injury history is relatively short.

He missed some time earlier in camp with an injury the Vikings didn't elaborate on, though O'Connell took a similar line in talking about the Vikings playing things cautious with their first-round investment.

“We’re being overly cautious with him right now,” O’Connell said, per Sports Illustrated. “Something that popped up toward the end of rookie minicamp. Nothing serious at all. Kind of a day-to-day thing that we’re working through.”

Addison also missed two games with USC last season with a tweaked ankle, and he sat out the Cotton Bowl against Tulane to protect himself.
