The world's leading football players discovered whether they have been shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or 2024 on September 4.

Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri is among the favourites, alongside Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham.

Lionel Messi saw off the challenge of Rodri's club teammate Erling Haaland last year to win the prize for a record-extending eighth time.

It feels likely that 2023 will represent the end of the astonishing Messi-Ronaldo era, with a new winner ready to be crowned.
