UEFA have confirmed Clement Turpin as the referee for the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The teams will lock horns at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday, May 28 as Jurgen Klopp's Reds take on Carlo Ancelotti's La Liga champions.

The narrative is nicely set with Liverpool looking to avenge their 2018 final defeat when Gareth Bale's brace put Madrid on their way to a 3-1 win in Kyiv.

Turpin, the fourth official for that match as Real Madrid won a 13th European Cup, will now be the main man in the middle later this month.

Who is Champions League final referee Clement Turpin?

Turpin, 39, has been an international referee since 2010 and this will be the first time he's taken centre-stage for a Champions League final.

Regarded as one of the top referees in Ligue 1, in May 2016 he was named the best French referee by the French Football Federation (FFF).

Turpin took charge of last season's Europa League final between Manchester United and Villarreal but has plenty of Champions League experience under his belt, including seven matches this season.

Of the 34 matches he's taken charge of this season, Turpin has handed out 118 yellow cards and 10 red cards.

He also officiated at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

What is referee Clement Turpin's record with Liverpool?

Turpin's most recent match with Liverpool involved saw him take charge of the Merseyside outfit's 2-0 win over RB Leipzig in last season's Champions League last-16 encounter where he didn't issue a single card.

In 2017, the Frenchman was the man in the middle for Liverpool's 2-0 win against Spartak Moscow in the group stages.

In the Europa League, Liverpool again were victorious with Turpin in charge in a 1-0 win over Augsburg in 2016.

What is referee Clement Turpin's record with Real Madrid?

Turpin refereed the first leg of Madrid's quarterfinal clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April, which saw Karim Benzema score a hat-trick in a 3-1 win.

He also handed out seven yellow cards in Madrid's 3-2 win over Inter Milan last season, while in 2018 he oversaw Madrid's 2-0 victory against Roma.
