Colombia can secure a spot in the Copa America quarterfinals with a win against Costa Rica on Friday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.

Los Cafeteros are leading Group D after a 2-1 victory over Paraguay, while Los Ticos surprised everyone with a 0-0 draw against Brazil.

In their opener, Colombia had a tough first 20 minutes but made their possession count, controlling 68% of the ball and scoring on two of their three shots on target. Coach Nestor Lorenzo’s team aims to make the quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive time. They are on a nine-match winning streak, with seven of those wins by just one goal. Another win would mark their first consecutive group-stage victory since 2019.

Colombia has been strong both defensively and offensively, scoring 13 goals in their last four matches. They have not lost to a CONCACAF team since a 3-2 defeat to Costa Rica in the 2016 Copa America.

Costa Rica, under Gustavo Alfaro, managed to keep Brazil scoreless, becoming just the third CONCACAF nation to do so in this competition. Despite being dominated in possession and chances, Los Ticos showed resilience. They are on a four-match unbeaten run and have not conceded in their last three games. However, they have never achieved consecutive clean sheets in Copa America history.

Historically, Costa Rica has struggled against Colombia, losing nine of their 11 encounters. Their last win over Colombia was in the 2016 Copa America.

Colombia vs. Costa Rica lineups & team news

Colombia may be without defender Jhon Lucumi for their Copa America clash against Costa Rica. Lucumi, who plays for Bologna, was substituted after 25 minutes in their last match due to a knock. He was replaced by Yerry Mina from Cagliari.

Luis Diaz celebrated his 50th cap for the national team in their opener. Camilo Vargas started in goal, continuing his streak of starting every match this year, while David Ospina, the record cap holder, remained on the bench. Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma, both of Crystal Palace, scored Colombia's goals, with James Rodriguez making history by becoming the first player since 2019 to assist twice in a single group stage match.

Colombia predicted starting lineup (4-4-2): Vargas (GK) — Munoz, Sanchez, Mina, Mojica — Rios, Lerma, Arias, Rodriguez — Duran, Diaz.

Costa Rica made three changes from their World Cup qualifying win over Grenada. Haxzel Quiros, Juan Pablo Vargas, and Jefferson Brenes started the match against Brazil.

Jeyland Mitchell, at 19 years and 270 days, became the youngest CONCACAF player to start in this tournament since 2011. Goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira made three crucial saves to secure his fourth consecutive clean sheet despite Brazil's 19 shots.

Costa Rica predicted starting lineup (5-3-2): Sequeira (GK) — Quiros, Mitchell, Vargas, Calvo, Lassiter — Galo, Bran, Aguilera — Zamora, Ugalde.
