Marcelo has made history in the world of football as one of the best left-backs of the modern era. The former Real Madrid star is finishing his career with the club where he began his career, Fluminense, and he's looking to keep adding trophies to his cabinet while he's there.

The 35-year-old most recently lifted the Copa Libertadores, the most prestigious prize in South American club football, on November 4. Fluminense beat Boca Juniors, the giants of Argentina, at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Marcelo's triumph sees him join an elite list of players to have won both the Libertadores and the UEFA Champions League. The achievement stands alongside the very best of the Brazilian's outstanding top-level career.

How many trophies has Marcelo won?

Throughout his career, Marcelo has won 28 trophies. Of those, 25 came in a Real Madrid shirt, making him — along with Karim Benzema — the most decorated player in the Spanish club's history.

He added the remaining three with the Brazil national team (the 2013 Confederations Cup), Fluminense (the 2023 Campeonato Carioca, which is the regional championship of Rio de Janeiro) and the 2023 wins Copa Libertadores.

Marcelo's career trophies break down as follows: six La Liga titles in Spain, five Champions Leagues, five Supercopas de Espana, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two Copas del Rey, plus the Confederations Cup, Campeonato Carioca titles and Copa Libertadores.

The best year of Marcelo's career, at least in terms of titles, was 2017. That year, he became a champion of La Liga, the Champions League, the Supercopa de Espana, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. It was the first quintuple in Real Madrid history.

How many Champions Leagues has Marcelo won?

Marcelo won five editions of the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid. He won the final in 2014 (vs. Atletico Madrid), 2016 (vs. Atletico Madrid), 2017 (vs. Juventus), 2018 (vs. Liverpool), and 2022 (vs. Liverpool). He did not lose a single Champions League final, closing his glorious chapter with Madrid undefeated in this fixture.

How old is Marcelo?

Marcelo was born in Rio de Janeiro on May 12, 1988, so he is currently 35 years old.

He began his career playing futsal at age nine, and was contracted to Fluminense by the time he was 13 years old.

After making 30 senior appearances for the Brazilian club, he made the switch to Real Madrid in the winter of 2007 at just 19 years old. He would go on to make 546 appearances for Los Blancos before joining Olympiacos on a free transfer in September of 2022.

Marcelo's career would come full circle in February of 2023, signing for his boyhood club Fluminense and winning the Copa Libertadores in his first season back.
