West Ham will face Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa Conference League on June 7, 2023 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The English side defeated AZ Alkmaar in the semifinal to reach their first European final since 1976. David Moyes' team have had a disappointing league campaign, but this could still be a historic season for the club.

Fiorentina, like West Ham, have been poor in the league, but they too will want to give their fans some European glory following their difficult season. They beat Basel in the last four to make the final.

The Sporting News looks at the head-to-head history between the two teams ahead of the final.

This will be the only the third competitive meeting between West Ham and Fiorentina. This is because the two sides' time in European competition have not coincided until this season.

However, the sides did meet twice in the Anglo-Italian League Cup back in 1975.

This was a short-lived football competition between teams from England and Italy that saw an English cup-winning team (League Cup or FA Cup) and the Coppa Italia winner, playing each other over two legs.

On this occasion, Fiorentina edged 1-0 victories in both legs.

The only other time the two finalists have been in the same European competition is the 1975/76 European Cup Winners' Cup. The Hammers reached the final, where they lost to Anderlecht, while Fiorentina were knocked out in the second round.

The last time West Ham faced an Italian opponent was in the first round of the 2006/07 Europa League, losing 4-0 on aggregate to Palermo. Fiorentina's most recent English affair came against Tottenham in the Round of 32 in the 2015/16 Europa League, being defeated 4-1 over two legs.

Fiorentina will have a very difficult task on their hands as West Ham have not lost in the competition so far. In fact, Moyes' side have only failed to win once, drawing 1-1 to Genk in the quarterfinal.

The Italian side have lost three times so far in the tournament, including their first leg against Basel in the semifinal. They have been scoring plenty of goals this campaign, most notably a 5-1 win over Hearts.
