Sweden and Australia will play their final World Cup match of the 2023 tournament in the third-placed playoff in Brisbane.

Both have had memorable wins in the knockout rounds in penalty shootouts, with Sweden knocking off back-to-back champions USA in the Round of 16, before Australia were able to defeat France in the longest penalty shootout in World Cup history to qualify for the semifinals.

Whilst both sides' tournaments ultimately came to an end one game short of where they wanted to be, they can both be proud of their achievements, particularly Australia who have performed brilliantly in front of their own fans.

Attendance records and TV viewing figures have been smashed in Australia with over 11 million people watching the semifinal against England, a record for a broadcast in the 21st century.

Sweden vs Australia betting odds

As third-placed playoffs have far less meaning than many World Cup matches, teams often throw caution to the wind and play entertaining, attacking football often leading to a high scoring match.

Whilst the markets aren't necessarily predicting that to happen, it could be a good bet to capitalise on, especially given the attacking talent both sides possess.
