The first European meeting of the 2024 Formula 1 season gets underway this weekend at Imola, with the fourth edition of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The 2023 event was cancelled due to flooding and bad weather, and with Lando Norris having won the first race of his career last time out, the field is wide open for another upset going into the seventh race on this year's calendar.
The season so far has consisted of races in the Middle East, Far East and Oceania before heading Stateside for last weekend's Miami Grand Prix, and with the middle portion of the campaign coming up, get ready for the first of 10 European races, as Imola hosts the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix for only the fourth time, having previously played host to the San Marino Grand Prix.
First held as its own race, and the second of each season to be hosted in Italy, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was first held in 2020, and after Lewis Hamilton was the winner in the inaugural meeting, it's been Max Verstappen's forte ever since with two dominant victories in 2021 and 2022.

A fantastic weekend's worth of action begins on Friday, May 17 with the first of three practice sessions from Imola, with qualifying taking place at 4:00 p.m. local time (CET) and the race itself beginning with lights out from 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18.
While it's one of the newer events on the current F1 calendar, the iconic Imola Circuit, which is also known as the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, is the home of Ferrari, and also played host to the San Marino Grand Prix between 1981 and 2006. Since its return to the circuit, Verstappen has made Imola his own, but that could all change after Norris' win in Miami last time out.
We're not far away from the fourth edition of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and ahead of the weekend action in Italy's north-east, The Sporting News has all the action covered, with a full schedule, TV and streaming details to ensure you don't miss a minute.
