Michigan State will be one of the more interesting teams to follow this season. After a disappointing 4-8 season last year, the Spartans enter a new chapter by hiring Oregon State’s Jonathan Smith as the program’s 26th head coach.
Smith brings a plethora of transfers to East Lansing with him. One of those is quarterback Aidan Chiles, whom Smith has had positive things to say about thus far.
“I’ve really been impressed,” Smith said in an interview with college football analyst Adam Breneman. “Not just on the field, but off the field. His approach in the locker room and not making it all about himself, coming in and really building a great culture.”
Chiles was a highly regarded player this past offseason, ranked as the No. 2 QB in the transfer portal according to 247Sports. The sophomore finished with 309 yards and four passing touchdowns in his freshman campaign.
The Spartans have some weapons around Chiles that should help him have a much improved 2024 season. Wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. hopes to build on a 500-yard junior season, and Nick Marsh looks to make an impact as a freshman with a lot of hype entering this season.
Michigan State opens up the 2024 season at home against Florida Atlantic on Aug. 30. The Owls are another team with some new faces on offense, so this game will be interesting to watch and see how these transfers impact their respective teams.
