It's almost time for the 2024 National Football League season to finally kick off.

There are just two days left until the new season kicks off on Thursday, September 5th with the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs facing off. The San Francisco 49ers will kick off their season on Monday, September 9th against the New York Jets.

San Francisco widely is considered to be among the top contenders in the NFC after making a run to the Super Bowl last season, although it fell against the Kansas City Chiefs.

There's a lot to like about the 49ers but after the season they will have some tough decisions to make. Star cornerback Charvarius Ward will be a free agent and Bleacher Report surprisingly already has linked him to the Washington Commanders.

"2025 Free Agency: CB Charvarius Ward, San Francisco 49ers," Bleacher Report said. "With Benjamin St.-Juste, Noah Igbinoghene, and recently acquired Michael Davis all entering contract years, the Commanders will be in the cornerback market this offseason. Also, between second-year pro Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and rookie Mike Sainristil, the team will be young at the position so going the free-agent route might be the best option.

"Ward will be one of the top corners available on the open market since he has experience filling the CB1 role. Also, the 28-year-old who turns 29 in May has impressive ball skills with career highs in interceptions (five) and passes defended (23) last year. The latter was also the most in the league."

It's certainly far too early to even think about next year's free agency. Ward is a star and likely will get paid like one, but it's too early to think of possible landing spots with the 2024 season not even here yet, although it's just days away.
