Training camp quickly is approaching and that means that franchises are going to have to make some tough decisions soon.

There still are plenty of free agents out there who are looking for their next opportunities. There likely will be a flurry of moves in the near future as teams add free agents, but there also will be plenty of subtractions.

National Football League franchises will have to eventually trim down rosters and there could be some surprising players out there. One player who was mentioned as a possible cut candidate is Chicago Bears running back Khalil Herbert, according to Bleacher Report's Alex Kay.

"Khalil Herbert may be the odd man out when the Chicago Bears clear the logjam in their backfield," Kay said. "After coming to terms on a three-year, $24.5 million deal with D'Andre Swift—who projects to lead a platoon that also includes 2023 fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson—the Bears will find themselves hard-pressed to keep Herbert as a little-utilized depth option.

"The 26-year-old is playing out the final year of his rookie deal and set to hit the open market next spring. While he only has a lowly $1.1 million cap hit, the team could better utilize the roster spot to pad out a lineup hoping to finally exit a rebuild in 2024."

This doesn't guarantee that Herbert will be cut this summer but it is interesting that he was mentioned. He tallied 611 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground last season in 12 games played. He added 134 yards in the air along with another touchdown off of a career-high 20 receptions.

He has been solid over the last three years with the Bears but it does sound like his time with the team could be coming to an end in the near future.
