The Green Bay Packers made a major change on the offensive side of the ball this offseason.
Green Bay had running back Aaron Jones on the team for the last seven years. Jones no longer is with the Packers, though. He joined the Minnesota Vikings this offseason and the Packers signed former Las Vegas Raiders star Josh Jacobs to replace him.
Jacobs is three years younger than Jones, a two-time Pro Bowler, and led the National Football League with 1,653 rushing yards in 2022. He is a clear upgrade, but it sounds like the Packers aren't the only team that pursued him.
The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly were trying to land Jacobs, but he told The Athletic's Dan Pompei that he was against a move.
“They were trying to get me hard,” Jacobs said as transcribed by Pompei. “But there was no way I was going there. I feel like once you are rivals with somebody, you have a genuine hate for them. I couldn’t see myself in that color. And besides, I never wanted to be the guy that joined the dominant team. I want to be the guy that beats the dominant team.”
Kansas City is the reigning Super Bowl champion, but Jacobs decided against a move after facing off against the Chiefs on numerous occasions in AFC West clashes over the last few years. Green Bay certainly is fortunate to have him in town rather than playing for the Chiefs in 2024.
