For now, the Miami Dolphins have some good news to offer on the Odell Beckham Jr. injury front.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters on the day before the NFL’s final 53-man cutdown deadline and suggested that Beckham won’t be on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) to start the season.

Beckham wasn’t on the list of names (Bradley Chubb, Cam Goode, Isaiah Wynn) who will start the year on the PUP. It’s an interesting twist, considering the outright mystery that is the injury that has prevented Beckham from practicing with the team at all since signing a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason.

Even if Beckham starts the season on the 53-man roster, though, it doesn’t mean he will instantly start practicing so that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can actually figure out the star receiver’s role in the offense.

This Beckham injury saga has dominated Dolphins training camp chatter, with vague updates from coaches and Beckham himself getting into arguments with fans about it on social media

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have battled minor injuries recently, too. One of the next men up on the depth chart, River Cracraft, could miss the start of the season due to an injury suffered in the preseason finale, too.

If Beckham avoids the PUP and Non-Football Injury list (NFI), he could easily ramp up over the roughly two weeks before the start of the season. The Dolphins desperately need that around Tagovailoa, given the lack of reps for the trio together over the summer. But if not, fans will at least get some sort of information when injury reports start ahead of Week 1.
