Ahead of what was a crucial step in his quest to be the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback going into the 2024 season, Gardner Minshew went full Jameis Winston in his pregame speech to his teammates.
Now with the Cleveland Browns, Winston had a memorable quote when talking to the media on Aug. 8 about the team's starter, Deshaun Watson. It was Jameis in his purest form.
"I think that's one of the things that a lot of people forget when you can go out and you can see practice. You can knick-knack, this that, paddy-whack, give a dog a bone," Winston said. "Deshaun Watson is going to turn it on. He always going to find a way to shine when the lights come on. Man, I just rhymed. Can I leave on that 'cause I know that one going to hit."
Before the preseason Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys, Minshew borrowed Winston's now-infamous line and added his own little twist to it when addressing the team in the tunnel.

"Knick-knack, paddy-whack, give a dog a bone. The Raiders are gonna protect their own! Trust yourself, trust each other, let's go win, baby," Minshew said.
If there's still any doubt about who should win the starting job between Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, that pregame speech should put the veteran signal-caller over the top.
