Time is starting to run out for the San Francisco 49ers.

The 2024 National Football League regular season will kick off in one week and it's still unclear where receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be playing. There have been points where it has seemed like an extension was on the way for San Francisco and other times where it has seemed like he was about to be traded.

Aiyuk isn't practicing and negotiations continue to hit snags left and right. It really is a toss-up of what will happen with him. One team that has been linked to him through trade no longer is interested in a deal narrowing the possible field.

The Washington Commanders have popped up as a possible option for Aiyuk, but they aren't involved in the sweepstakes, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"Commanders are not in on Aiyuk," Schefter said.

Washington seemed like a logical landing spot thanks in large part to Aiyuk's connection to Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. The two played together in college for Arizona State University and have remained close.

The Commanders seemed like they would be an option for Aiyuk but that isn't the case any longer. The new season is about to begin and the 49ers will have to make a decision soon about Aiyuk's future.

San Francisco has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons throughout the summer and although it should be one of the top teams in the NFC in 2024, there still are too many questions heading into the new season.
