The Tennessee Titans were hit with quite the surprise last week when 2024 free-agent signing and offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles decided to retire from the NFL.

At the time, Charles looked to be the favorite for the Titans' starting right guard job, which only made his decision more puzzling. Head coach Brian Callahan revealed that Charles simply didn't want to play football anymore.

When asked about Charles' retirement, offensive line coach Bill Callahan admitted he was shocked by it, as were other coaches and players. He also said he tried to reach out to Charles but did not hear back from him.

"I was really kind of taken aback, personally" Callahan said of Charles' retirement, according to Paul Kuharsky. "I didn't know what happened or what occurred, I let Ran (Carthon) handle that. But it came out of the blue, so we were all, players and coaches, were really surprised by that."

"I text, called, tried to communicate, but to no avail."

With Charles gone, Titans 2021 second-round pick Dillon Radunz figures to grab the right guard, a notion that was only strengthened after he started in the preseason opener last week. But Daniel Brunskill and Andrew Rupcich are also in the mix.
