Arsenal have already finalised a permanent deal for David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori's arrival from Bologna, but their priority is now a midfielder, a right-sided winger and indeed a striker, which is evidently the weakest area of Mikel Arteta's side.

Viktor Gyokeres is a name that Arsenal fans are all too familiar with. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Swedish striker ever since the start of the summer transfer window after his impressive campaign in Portugal.

Arsenal scouts even recently watched him play at Sporting to reaffirm that he has fully recovered from a minor knee surgery he underwent at the end of last season.

Having joined the Portuguese outfit from Championship side Coventry City for around £20 million ($25m) last summer, the 26-year-old been scoring goals for fun, firing 43 goals whilst providing 15 assists in 50 games in all competitions during the incredible 2023/24 campaign.

Boasting imposing target-man physique, Gyokeres is highly admired by Mikel Arteta and Edu and would represent a statement signing for the club this summer.

However, several reports suggested that his release clause, worth a whopping €100 million ($108m), is proving to be a roadblock for the Gunners, who are somewhat restricted by Premier League and UEFA's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Arsenal are still open to being in reinforcements at a fair market price, and it looked like Sporting's steep asking price could lead them to stop their pursuit for Gyokeres.

However, a report on The Mirror reveals that the Portuguese side has made a decision that could help lower their asking price slightly.

Coventry City have received a €2 million ($2.2m) payment from Sporting Lisbon, which has reduced the sell-on clause for Viktor Gyokeres from 15% to 10% . This move by the Portuguese club could potentially lower the asking price for the striker, as they will only have to share 10% of any future transfer profits with his former team .

The reduced sell-on percentage could make Gyokeres a more attractive target for potential suitors, such as Arsenal, who have been keeping a close eye on the player . If the overall transfer fee becomes more palatable, the Gunners may reignite their pursuit of the Swedish forward in the coming days.
