Striker Sophia Smith and the U.S. Women's National Team play their final send-off match today in the U.S. ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The USA hosts Costa Rica in an international friendly match at Audi Field in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, July 16. It's the second international match this month for the U.S., following a 1-0 win over Mexico in New Jersey on Saturday, July 13.

This will be the final chance for fans to see their USWNT on home soil before flying over to the south of France for the start of Olympics group stage play. And it will be a key chance for coach Emma Hayes to settle on her group of forwards to start with.

Smith scored against Mexico and has likely earned her spot in the starting lineup, but there's still Trinity Rodman, Jaedyn Shaw, Mallory Swanson, Lynn Williams, and Crystal Dunn all fighting for two places along the wings.

USA Women vs. Costa Rica lineups & team news

With a short turnaround from the last friendly match, coach Emma Hayes may make a few changes to keep her squad fresh ahead of the Olympics.

Crystal Dunn, Korbin Albert, Jaedyn Shaw, and Emily Sonnet could all start, and Hayes may even use some of the alternates, like Croix Bethune, to give her main squad a rest if necessary.

Unfortunately, Catarina Macario was forced to withdraw from the Olympic roster due to "knee soreness" with Lynn Williams taking her place in the squad. Sam Coffey returned from an ankle injury recently and figures to play.

USWNT starting lineup (4-3-3): Naeher (GK) — Fox, Girma, Sonnet, Krueger — Lavelle, Coffey, Albert— Shaw, S. Smith, Dunn.

Costa Rica coach Benito Rubido has called up a squad with youth in midfield, especially after Raquel Rodriguez, but also plenty of experience along the backline and up top. Gabriela Guillen and Mariana Benavides both have more than 70 caps each, as does Melissa Herrera and Gloriana Villalobos. Rodriguez herself has more than a century of caps, which should give the young American midfielders Sam Coffey and Korbin Albert a huge test.

Costa Rica starting lineup (4-3-3): Solera (GK) — Guillen, Villalobos, Benavides, Elizondo — Valenciano, Rodriguez, Arias — Villalobos, Salas, Herrera.
