The 97th annual American Legion World Series begins on Thursday, Aug. 15, with eight teams left vying for the elusive title.
American Legion Baseball is one of the premier amateur baseball circuits in the U.S., with upwards of 3,500 teams participating across the country.
Now, the field is down to eight, with the remaining teams converging upon Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, N.C.

Last year, League City (Texas) Post 554 won the championship; the team is back in the field this year to defend its title, with nine returning players from last year's squad.
