Betting Options for March Madness

There are numerous ways to bet on March Madness at North Carolina sports betting sites. Here is a hypothetical example of what game odds can look like for an NCAA Tournament game, followed by a primer on how each bet works.

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Duke +5.5 (-110) +175 155 (-110)
UNC -5.5  (-110) -210 155 (-110)

Moneyline

Moneyline bets task you with picking the team that will win the game without regard to a  point spread. A $100 bet on underdog Duke here will return $175 and your original stake back if the Demon Deacons win. A $210 bet on favored UNC will pay out $100 and your stake back if the Tar Heels win.

Spread

Duke is getting 5.5 points on the spread here at standard -110 odds. A $110 bet on the Demon Deacons will pay out $100 and your stake back if Duke wins or loses by five points to cover the spread. A $110 bet on UNC will return $100 if the Tar Heels win by at least six points.

Total

You add the number of points scored by each team in the game to get the total, which is also known as the OVER/UNDER. In this example, you'd bet UNDER or OVER 155 points being scored.

Parlays

A parlay tasks you with predicting multiple outcomes in a single bet. Let's say you bet Duke +5.5 and the OVER 155 in our example. If both of those things happen, a $100 bet will return $260 in winnings for a total payout of $360 (including your original stake).

What if you wanted to bet on UNC, Duke, and NC State to cover the spread in their March Madness games? Assuming odds of -110 for all three games on the spread, a $100 bet would pay out $600 in winnings and your stake back for a total payout of $700 if all NC teams cover. Keep in mind that all three outcomes or "legs" of your parlay have to be correct to win the bet.

Prop bets

Props don't involve the actual outcome of a March Madness game. Think of them as betting on a game within the game. A team prop can involve betting on Duke or UNC to reach 40 points first. Player props are typically more popular during March Madness. Here you're betting on the number of points, assists, or rebounds a player will produce in the game.

Player Rebounds OVER UNDER
Armando Bacot 10.5 -115 -115

UNC's Armando Bacot leads the ACC in rebounding with 10.5 boards per game. Will Bacot exceed his average with 11 or more in the upcoming game? If so, the OVER would hit on this player prop. Should Bacot finish with 10 or fewer rebounds, UNDER bettors will cash their tickets.

Live betting

In-game bets, or live bets, are made after March Madness games have tipped off. Sportsbooks offer new game odds depending on how the contest is going. You can make live bets on the spread, moneyline, total, and more.

Futures

March Madness futures odds are offered on teams to win the national championship, make the Final Four, or advance to the Elite Eight.

Futures are also available on the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player. UNC's Joel Berry was the last member of a NC-based school to win the award back in 2017. North Carolina defeated Gonzaga to win the national championship that year.
