It's Australia who've roared into a 2-0 lead after a nerve-wracking 43-run win over England in the second Test of the Ashes 2023.
Australia batted first and put on 416 runs on the board, with Steve Smith raking up yet another Ashes century. In reply, England were in a good position when they were at 279-4, but they lost six wickets for 46 runs to hand the Aussies a 91-run lead.
Australia were cruising at 187-2 in the 2nd innings, courtesy of Usman Khawaja's half-century. A target of over 400-450 looked certain. However, the hosts managed to restrict the Aussies to just 279. England were set a target of 371 to level the series.
The start to the run chase was a nightmarish one for England as Mitchell Starc was on absolute carnage with the new ball, sending Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope within the first five overs. Then, Pat Cummins struck twice in the same over to send Joe Root and Harry Brook, reducing them to 45-4.
In came English skipper Ben Stokes, who stitched a 132-run stand with opener Ben Duckett, who had been playing very well, dealing with Australia's attack.
However, Duckett was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, ending his innings at 83. Jonny Bairstow couldn't contribute much either as his poor form continued.
Then, it was totally the Ben Stokes show as the all-rounder plundered the bowlers all over the park and raced his way to 150, becoming the first player since Mark Boucher in 2001 to score 150 in the 4th innings of a Test in England. He stitched a 108-run with Stuart Broad for the seventh wicket, in which Broad's contribution was merely 10 runs. That should tell you just how authoritative Stokes was after Bairstow's dismissal.
But that was it. Once Stokes was dismissed, Australia knew they had the win in the bag. And then, they didn't take much time to wrap the innings up as they won by 43 runs to take a huge 2-0 lead in the series.

What a game of Test cricket, and what a final day that was. Jeez. That's top-notch from both England and Australia, who have given their absolute best in the first two Tests of The Ashes 2023 and entertained us all.
16:11- WICKET! AUSTRALIA TAKE A 2-0 LEAD!!! Josh Tongue's resistance comes to an end as the 25-run stand between Tongue and Jimmy Anderson comes to an end. What a game of Test cricket we have had. An exhibition. This is The Ashes for you!
15:26- WICKET! AUSTRALIA ARE IN A HURRY! It's another short ball that leads to the downfall and this time, Stuart Broad is the victim. Green completes a comfortable catch as Hazlewood grabs his third wicket of the innings. Aussies one wicket away from making it 2-0. What a turnaround.
15:22- WICKET! Another one goes down. Steve Smith takes a tumbling catch to dismiss Ollie Robinson as Cummins gets his third wicket.

14:50- 150 up for Stokes, a fantastic innings from the England skipper!
End of Session 1, Lunch commences. England need 128 to win.
It has been a masterclass in Bazball from Ben Stokes who is England's last stand against Australia winning the Second Test of this year's Ashes. From centuries to bizarre dismissals, the session had everything, with the match still very much in the open. Carey has been the away side's best player so far with a fantastic catch, as well as the presence of mind to dismiss Bairstow. The Aussies just need one wicket to get the match back in their hands.
13:08- Century! A brilliant display of Bazball from Stokes.
12:45- Wicket! What a bizarre wicket as Carey makes the best of Bairstow's lapse of concentration to run him out.
12:14- Wicket! What a catch from Carey who has been excellent for Australia this game! Duckett leaves after a strong showing.
11:47- 50 for Stokes! A well-deserved half-century for the skipper.

ENG second innings begins
End of Australia's second innings, AUS lead by 370 runs.
England bowled much better today, deploying some of the short ball tactics that caused them trouble in their first innings of this Test match. However, they still have a large total to chase in 371 runs, which if they pull-off, would be their second-highest successful chase ever. Australia would've liked to put up more runs on the board, however, things are still in their hands. It will be interesting to see how they do without Lyon in the next innings. This Test is far from over.
15:50- Wicket! Stokes dismisses Hazlewood! Another brilliant catch from Root who has been excellent this entire innings.
15:42- Wicket! Broad gets another! Cummins departs after being caught out on the short ball, the Aussies close to being bowled out.
15:12- WICKET! ROBINSON IS ON FIRE! Another short ball, another wicket, and this time it's Alex Carey who is heading back to the pavilion. This is sensational stuff from Robinson and England. They are just three wickets away now, can they restrict Australia's lead from crossing 400?
15:06- WICKET! CAMERON GREEN DEPARTS! It's the short ball strategy that keeps getting them success and they have extremely patient with it. Ollie Robinson gets the wicket and Aussies lose their sixth wicket.
14:01- Session 2 commences. The players are back in the middle. Ben Stokes to bowl and it's his first over. Alex Carey on strike.
13:25- End of Session 1. Lunch Break commences. AUS 222/5 (74) lead ENG by 313 runs
That morning session belongs to England, even if they gave away 92 runs. Khawaja and Smith added 57 runs before both of them departed in quick succession. Head soon followed them back after scoring just 7 runs.
Cameron Green and Alex Carey have added 25 runs for the sixth wicket and we are all set for a cracking session post-lunch. Will Australia cross the 400-run mark, or will England enforce a collapse? Stay tuned to find out!
12:50- WICKET! WHAT A CATCH BY ROOT! Broad gets his second wicket of the day as his short ball isn't played well by Travis Head, and Root takes an absolute blinder at short fine leg, displaying some superhuman reflexes. England sense a turnaround.
12:26- WICKET! WHAT DRAMA HERE!!!! Immediately on the next ball after he's dropped, Steve Smith finds Zak Crawley after attempting a pull shot. Two set batters gone in as many overs. England are making a comeback here. Smith departs for 34. Australia now 4 down.
12:21- WICKET! Australia get the first breakthrough this morning. Stuart Broad picks a wicket in his first over of the day, and it's a big one at that as he has dismissed Usman Khawaja. The Aussie opener departs for a well-made 77. AUS 187/3 now.
10:38- Welcome back to TSN's live coverage of Day 4 of The Ashes 2023, Second Test here at the Lord's. It's a bid overcast but we should have an uninterrupted day's play. Australia's lead has extended to 221 and they've lost just two wickets. England will need quick wickets otherwise their arch-rivals will bat them out of the game. We should have some mouth-watering action unfold before our eyes today. Stay tuned!

It has started raining heavily and the match has been halted. The covers out.
16:43: WICKET! Marnus Labuschagne departs for 30. James Anderson picks up his first wicket of this innings.
16:09- In-form Usman Khawaja completes yet another half-century! Australia nearing 200-run lead

15:03- WICKET! The first breakthrough for England as David Warner gets dismissed by Josh Tounge via LBW for just 25 runs. Australia 63/1.
Lunch Break. AUS lead by 103 runs.
It's been all about Australia on Day 3 as they sent England's batsmen back to the pavilion in rapid fashion and maintain a lead of over 100 runs with all their batsmen raining. It's currently the Aussies match to lose with everything going in their favour, however, England can't be counted out yet. The overcast conditions could make it difficult for the away side to bat, and England's swing pacers will be looking forward to making the most of this situation.
End of 2nd Innings. AUS lead by 91 runs.
With Tongue's wicket Australia have bowled out England before they could even make 50 runs on the day. The Aussies continued their relentless attack on the home side's batsmen, as they had towards the end of yesterday's proceedings. England will be disappointed they could not cut down Australia's lead any further, however, if they improve upon their opponent's bowling display, they could bring themselves back into the match easily.
12:25- Wicket! Lyon who? Head gets another in the same over and Broad is sent back to the stands
12:21- Wicket! Excellent by Carey behind the stumps as Head dismisses Robinson
12:05- Wicket! Hazlewood gets in on the act as he sends Bairstow back to the pavilion.
11:37- Wicket! England continue to fall victim to the short ball, and Starc gets the all-important wicket of Brooks
11:32- Fifty up for Brooks!
11:02- Wicket! What a start for Australia, Starc catches Stokes off-guard, with the England skipper edging it towards Green who is reliable with his hands as usual.

England vs Australia: The Ashes Second Test, Day 2 live updates
18:32- STUMPS, DAY 2. ENG 278/4 after 61 overs, trail AUS by 138 runs
England will be happy with their response here, but they surely know they lost three wickets needlessly after cruising at 188/1. Crawley and Duckett laid the perfect foundation and implemented the Bazball blueprint successfully. After Crawley's departure, Pope and Duckett piled on more pressure and looked untouchable out there. However, once Pope was dismissed, Duckett and Root followed him soon, with the former missing out on his third Test century by just two runs. However, Harry Brook and Ben Stokes revived the innings and have put on 56 runs for the fifth wicket to set this Test up very nicely.
We'll back for all the action on Day 3. Goodnight!
17:27- WICKET! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE JOE ROOT? He will be angry at himself after that shot. It's the third consecutive wicket off a short ball and this time Mitchell Starc bangs one in short, at the body, and Root plays it frivolously. Smith, positioned at backward square, realised he had a lot of ground to cover. He makes a dive to complete a sensational catch and send Root back without making an impact.
17:08- WICKET! Heartbreak for Ben Duckett as he's dismissed on 98!!! It's the short ball from Hazlewood that once again does the trick and it's another well-set England batsman who perishes. Duckett will rue it and he knew that the maiden Ashes hundred was there for the taking. England lose two wickets in quick succession and Australia have the momentum now.
16:50- WICKET! Ollie Pope departs. Green gets the breakthrough and the short ball ploy has worked! Pope shuffled across and hit the pull shot, only to find Steve Smith at deep backward square leg. He looked in great touch and will be disappointed to miss out on a fifty.
16:01- Session 3 commences. The players are back in the middle after the Tea Break.
15:41- End of Session 2. Tea Break commences. ENG 145/1 after 30 overs, trail AUS by 271 runs.
That was England's session from start to end. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett added 91 runs for the opening wicket and got England off to the perfect start. Crawley was dismissed for 48 runs and was unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved 50. Then, Ollie Pope and Duckett added 54 runs in about 12 overs to keep the pressure on the Aussies. The game is poised very well as we head into the final session on Day 3. Stay tuned!
15:34- That's fifty for Ben Duckett! He brings up his 6th half century in Tests and has played a crucial knock at the top of the innings.
14:48- WICKET! Australia get their breakthrough as Zak Crawley departs for 48. England are 91/1.
13:45- The second session commences
13:03- LUNCH! End of first session on Day 2 as England 13/0 after 4 overs. We will be back shortly with the second innings.
It has been an eventful session that saw Steve Smith completing his 32nd century but England managed to pick up the remaining five wickets.
12:42- England's innings commence
12:32- WICKET! Australia bowled out for 416 as Ollie Robinson dismisses Josh Hazlewood for 4.
12:22- WICKET! Another one bites the dust! Nathan Lyon tries to pull Ollie Robinson's delivery but Josh Tongue takes his catch.
12:06- WICKET! Steve Smith departs off Josh Tongue's delivery for 110 runs as Ben Duckett takes his catch in the slip. A much-needed breakthrough for England.
11:47- CENTURY! 32nd Test hundred for Steve Smith. What a performer!
11:32- WICKET! Mitchell Starc dismissed by James Anderson as Bairstow takes his catch.
11:15- WICKET! Alex Carey departs for 22 after getting LBW off Stuart Broad's delivery. Australia are 351/6
11:03- Action resumes on Day 2!
10:55- There is good news, the players are out on the pitch and day 2 is set to resume.
10:30- It's drizzling out there but we hope that Day 2 starts on time.
10:00- Welcome to TSN's coverage of the Ashes second Test. Australia dominated Day 1 as they managed to put up a total of 339 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Steve Smith is not out 85 while Alex Carey remained unbeaten at 11.

18:51- STUMPS, DAY 1. AUS 339-5 after 83 overs.
18:18- Wicket! One brings two for England as Root sends him back. Cameron Green departs for a duck and that's a shocking shot so early in his innings.
18:16- Wicket! Joe Root dismisses Travis Head for 77 (73). Root has become England's unlikely hero as he breaks the partnership between Head and Smith. A good innings that from Head but he'll be disappointed not to have converted it into a big score.
17:46- Fifty for Travis Head. The left-handed batsman has looked in pristine touch and has given England an idea or two about how to employ the 'Bazball' strategy in the Ashes. He is looking in ominous form and England have no idea how to control the flow of runs, let alone take a wicket.
17:12- Fifty for Steve Smith. After failing in the first Test, Smith has made a good comeback and been his usual self in the second Ashes Test.
16:20- Session 3 commences
16:00- End of Session 2, Tea Break commences. AUS 190-2 after 50 overs
Australia completely dominated that session after losing David Warner. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have stitched a terrific stand so far, adding 94 runs for the 3rd wicket.
But England will be kicking themselves for not making the most of the overcast conditions and now they are facing the prospect of letting the Aussies post a daunting 1st innings.
14:20- Wicket! Tongue gets another important wicket as he sends back Warner who had been impressive so far.
13:59- Well that was fast, play to resume again.
13:54- Once again rain plays spoilsport as play is interrupted.
End of Session 1, Lunch Break commences. AUS 73-1 after 23.1 overs
Australia have powered through tough conditions with Warner and Khwaja's partnership, the former in particular looks to be in top-form once again and the Aussies will hope he continues in the same manner during the second session. England will be disappointed not to have made the most of the overcast condition, however, Khwaja's wicket just before the break will come as a big confidence boost for the home team.
12:59- England finally break the partnership! Tongue gets his first international Test wicket as he sends Khwaja back to the pavilion.
12:52- Warner gets a well deserved half century.
11:56- Play resumes
11:34- Stop in play due to rain, hopefully we are back in action soon.
11:07- Slight delay in proceedings due to pitch invaders
11:00- Play begins!
10:45- The covers are back on due to slight drizzle hope it doesn't delay the beginning of the game.
Teams:
Australia (Playing XI): David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey(w), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins(c), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
England (Playing XI): Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes(c), Jonny Bairstow(w), Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue, James Anderson
10:30- England win the toss and choose to bowl
10:00- Welcome to TSN's coverage of the Ashes second Test. England will be hoping to get one back and make the series even again after a disappointing loss in the last game. Australia on the other hand will be full of confidence heading into this match, after their stellar performance last time out.
Tongue IN, Mo OUT
In typical Bazball fashion, England have already announced their playing XI for the second Test, with the only change from the first Test being the inclusion of pacer Josh Tongue in place of Moeen Ali who struggled with a finger injury at Edgbaston.
