India and Australia, two of the biggest names in world cricket, went toe-to-toe against each other again, this time in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The match was played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia.

India remained unbeaten in the tournament so far and qualified to the semi-finals as Group 1 toppers.

Meanwhile, Australia's chances of making it to the knockout now depend on Afghanistan vs Bangladesh clash. Only if the Bangla Tigers beat the in-form Afghans, the Aussies will then make it to the semis.

ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Super 8: India vs Australia Live Updates

Thank you for following our Live match blog of the T20 World Cup game between India and Australia in St. Lucia.

Australia 180/7 after 20 overs. India win by 24 runs. India record a comprehensive victory over arch-rivals Australia, to secure a place in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. And for the Aussies, despite the loss, they are still mathematically not out of contention for a final-four spot. Having scored at least 176, a loss for Afghanistan means Australia booked a place in the semi-final.

Australia 166/7 after 18 overs. The Indians have mounted some comeback, this! The trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav stunt Australia's hitting abilities and provide crucial breakthroughs at regular intervals. Travis Head walks back to the pavilion for a well-made 76, courtesy of India's ace-pacer, Bumrah. Kuldeep Yadav bowls a match-winning spell under pressure, breaking the shackles for the Men in Blue, as they close in on another Super 8 victory.

Australia 99/2 in 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav gets things back in India's favour, with two superb overs. The chinaman dismisses Mitchell Marsh, who scored three boundaries and two maximums in his 37-run innings. The Aussies are in the driving seat at the halfway stage, needing 108 runs off the final 10. One big over can turn the tide in anyone's favour.

Australia 65/1 in 6 overs. The Aussies have thrown the kitchen sink at the Indian bowlers. Indians have nightmares of Travis Head, yet again. He, and skipper Mitchell Marsh weave a 59-run partnership at the end of the powerplay after Arshdeep Singh dismisses David Warner cheaply. Can India get back in the game after a torrid start? Only time will tell.

We are back for the run chase. India are out to defend their total. Australian southpaw duo of David Warner and Travis Head walk out at the crease. Arshdeep will start the proceedings for India, as they seek revenge for the ODI World Cup final defeat with a win in the Super 8 game.

India 205/5 in 20 overs. The Men in Blue see a slump in their scoring rate, after a fantastic display by the Aussie bowlers at the death. Apart from a few blows from Pandya's bat, Indian batters struggle to connect the ball as well as they would like. Australia will certainly be happy with their bowling performance since the dismissal of Rohit Sharma. All to play for in the second half!

India 162/4 in 15 overs. Rohit Sharma departs for just eight shy of a century before Suryakumar Yadav walks back for a well-made 31. Shivam Dube is joined by another hard-hitter, Hardik Pandya. Australia have got two set batters out, but India have a plethora of batters up their arsenal. An interesting end to the innings coming up!

India 114/2 in 10 overs. Rohit is simply unstoppable at the moment. The Indian skipper is closing on a brilliant century. The Australian bowlers are simply clueless in front of the relentless attack from the veteran. Supporting him on the crease is fellow Mumbai Indians compatriot, Suryakumar Yadav.

India 52/1 in 5 overs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is firing on all cylinders as he smashed Starc for 29 runs in the third over. He didn't just stop there, Rohit went on to smash Cummins as well to reach his half-century in just 19 balls.

KICK-OFF!!! The two veterans, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli acquire the crease for the Indians, while Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc will open the proceedings for Mitchell Marsh and the team in a must-win clash. The sky in St. Lucia looks promising, without any hint of rain.
