Following an 11-day break, Inter Miami returns to action with nearly a full squad and a pair of MLS games in the run up to Leagues Cup.

Inter Miami hosts John Herdman and Toronto FC in a mid-week MLS match on Wednesday, July 17 at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Following Inter Miami's stunning 6-1 defeat at FC Cincinnati on July 6, where the wheels fell off defensively at the end of a week with three games in seven days, Inter Miami now sits one point behind Cincinnati in the standings.

Lionel Messi will miss the match after returning from international duty with an ankle injury while Sergio Busquets is out as well due to his red card in the loss to Cincinnati. But Matias Rojas, Jordi Alba, and the rest of Inter Miami's stars should be fit to play the match.

Herdman has Toronto FC barely in the playoff picture, with former Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi leading the team with eight goals and five assists this season. A win at the start of a three-match road stretch would be huge to the Canadian side.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Inter Miami vs. Toronto FC lineups, team news

Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino will be missing some key players due to injury and suspension. Messi is expected to be out with his ankle injury for at least a week if not longer, while Busquets (red card) and Marcelo Weigandt (yellow card accumulation) are both suspended for this match. Martino will have to go to the end of his bench to find players for the roster.

Luis Suarez, who only played sparingly with Uruguay at Copa America, is back with the Inter Miami squad and could start this match.

Inter Miami projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Callender (GK) — Frey, Aviles, Kryvtsov, Alba — Gressel, Redondo, Gomez — Taylor, Campana, Suarez.

Herdman this week mentioned centerback Kevin Long suffered a broken nose last match, which could mean he misses this one as he recovers from injury. Additionally, Lorenzo Insigne could return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench each of the last two games.

Toronto FC projected starting lineup (3-4-3): Johnson (GK) — Rosted, Mabika, O'Neill — Bernadeschi, Petretta, Longstaff, Marshall-Rutty — Insigne, Owuso, Thompson.

Inter Miami vs. Toronto FC prediction

Inter Miami's defense floundered in the tough confines of TQL Stadium, but after a long break and some time to get back to basics, Inter Miami should expect a better performance from itself at home. Under the bright lights in Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami certainly could win this one, but missing Busquets and Weigandt may be too much to hold on to a clean sheet and win.

Prediction: Inter Miami 2-2 Toronto FC
