The Golden State Warriors power forward had Sam Cassell on for the most recent episode of The Draymond Green Show. Green had high praise for one of Cassell’s former teammates, calling Rajon Rondo “one of the best basketball minds” he has “ever witnessed.”
Green has been around some great ones, having been coached by Steve Kerr and Mark Jackson throughout his NBA career and playing with the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Kevin Durant, and Chris Paul.
Rondo is a four-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA champion. He ranks fifteenth all-time in assists and led the league in steals in 2010. In the later stages of his playing career and now during retirement, his basketball IQ is often talked about as the most important part of his game.
“It was his second year. His leadership quality, his thought process of the game of basketball was unbelievable,” said Cassell.
Green mentioned that he is praying he will eventually get to sit down with Rondo and talk basketball with him. Like Cassell, Rondo could have a post-playing career as a coach if he chooses to. His intellect when it comes to the game of basketball is second to none, and it would not be surprising to see him join an NBA staff in the near future.
