It’s currently the most action-packed period of the NBA calendar, with the second round of the playoffs in full effect.

But for one night, a handful of stars are showing out not on the court, but on the runway, at the 2023 Met Gala.

A yearly event, the Met Gala attracts the biggest celebrities, and as usual, a number of NBA and WNBA players have made the cut this year, ranging from fashionable veterans to up-and-coming style icons.

For the 2023 edition, the theme is ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, an homage to the legendary fashion designer who sadly passed away in 2019.

Here are the best NBA and WNBA looks from this year’s Met Gala.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

He was named GQ’s most fashionable man of 2022, named a LeagueFits All-Star starter this year, and SGA has added another infinity stone to his fashion-infinity gauntlet, returning to the Met Gala with his eyes on the crown.

As expected, the OKC star showed out, rocking a Thom Browne fit highlighted by a cardigan and skirt matching set, layered with a show-stopping open coat.

Speaking to GQ in the lead-up to the event, SGA emphasized the care and time that went into building his look.

“You just want to get it right,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.

“We spent a lot of time here today, but I've spent that time before. It’s not like I haven't thought that much about an outfit [in the past].”

Brittney Griner

It has been a tumultuous 12 months for Brittney Griner, the former WNBA All-Star who was detained in a Russian prison for nearly 10 months.

But since her return to the USA, she has slowly returned to the spotlight, highlighted by her appearance at the Met Gala.

Griner, attending with wife Cheryl, is fitted out in Calvin Klein, a bone-colored outfit consisting of suit pants, a turtleneck shirt, and a coat. It’s classy, understated, and perfectly fitting for Griner’s sense of style.

Russell Westbrook

A near-staple of the Met Gala at this point, the NBA’s king of style is back once again and ready to set the red carpet on fire.

Westbrooks’ former looks have included a top-hat and skirt outfit, and a navy suit with matching dyed hair complete with white stars, and this year he has once again gone big, sporting a pale lemon cardigan with paisley-patterned dress pants by Bode.

Coming off of a huge performance in the Clippers’ first-round playoff loss, Russ has gone big once again, proving that he is still in the upper echelon of fashionable hoopers.

Dwyane Wade

All black everything for the Miami Heat legend, as Dwyane Wade dropped yet another iconic Met Gala fit.

Dressed by Prada, Wade told GQ that he was “giving a little Django”, but the movie reference that is more fitting for his outfit is Blade, with sleek black leather gloves, a vest, and an impressive black overcoat.

Flash has never been afraid to impress with his clothes, and this year is no different, showing out with his wife Gabrielle Union once again.
