The defense for top-seeded Houston can carry the Cougars all the way to a national championship and will look to keep rolling against No. 9 Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
Houston had a dominant 86-46 victory over Longwood in the opener on Friday night. The Cougars held the Lancers to 16 points on 26.3% shooting in the first half.
Senior guard L.J. Cryer and graduate guard Damian Dunn led Houston with 17 points apiece. Sophomore guard Emanuel Sharp added 13 points and senior guard Jamal Shead finished with 11 points and nine assists for Houston.
The Cougars were coming off a 69-41 loss to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament championship game, but the Cougars showed no lingering effects as they won their sixth straight first-round game in March Madness.

Texas A&M advanced with a 98-83 victory over No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers in first-round on Friday. The Aggies reached the second round of the NCAAs for the first time since 2018.
Junior Wade Taylor IV converted an NCAA Tournament school-record seven 3-pointers en route to 25 points with five assists.
Junior Manny Obaseki finished with 22 points and graduate Tyrece Radford scored 20. Junior Jace Carter had 13 points, including 11 in the second half, and senior Henry Coleman III scored 10.
