There hasn’t been a national champion come out of the Big 12 Conference since Texas shocked USC in the BCS National Championship Game following the 2005 season.

Before TCU lost to Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship following the 2022 season, no team from the Big 12 had even played for a national title since Texas lost to Alabama following the 2009 season.

In 2024, the odds of getting a team in the mix grow with the first 12-team CFP, and CBS Sports has two teams from the Big 12 projected to make it with No. 12 Utah and No. 17 Kansas State.

In the CBS projections, Utah is the No. 7 seed and hosts No. 10 seed Miami (Fla.) in the first round and Kansas State is the No. 11 seed and travels to play No. 6 Texas A&M in the first round.

Neither Utah nor Kansas State have ever played in the BCS National Championship Game or made the CFP.
