The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of money left to spend if they want to make a major splash in free agency.
With training camp quickly approaching, San Francisco has the sixth-most cap space still available at just over $30 million. The 49ers widely are considered one of the top teams in football after making it all the way to the Super Bowl last season, although they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
San Francisco's offense seems to be pretty set, but it still could use another boost on defense. The 49ers currently are expected to start Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir at cornerback and could use another boost. There are some very intriguing players available in free agency with one of the biggest stars being former Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Dallas Cowboys superstar Stephon Gilmore.
Gilmore is one of the top free agents out there and he certainly could add some star power to the 49ers' defense.
The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year has five Pro Bowl selections under his belt and also was named an All-Pro twice.
San Francisco certainly could afford Gilmore at this point and should be considering all options to get back to the Super Bowl. The 49ers won't be able to keep their core together forever and should be trying to maximize the 2024 season. Adding Gilmore would help with that fact.
