It certainly has been a busy day in the National Football League.

Teams across the league had to take long, hard looks at their rosters and trim them down to just 53 players. After a long summer of adding to rosters through free agency, trades, and the National Football League Draft this is no small task.

Franchises had to make difficult decisions which led to hundreds of players getting cut and some even being traded ahead of the deadline.

The San Francisco 49ers certainly had a busy day and had to make some tough choices. One announcement that caught some people off guard, though, was that running back Elijah Mitchell was placed on the season-ending Injured Reserve, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"49ers placed RB Elijah Mitchell on the season-ending injured reserve list," Schefter said.

Mitchell has had extremely unfortunate luck when it comes to injuries. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2021 National Football League Draft by the 49ers and immediately made an impact as a rookie. He had just under 1,000 rushing yards in just 11 games played.

Injuries have taken him out of action over the last few years, though. The addition of Christian McCaffrey also significantly altered his expected role. He now will miss the entire 2024 season after it looked like he was about to have a significant role behind McCaffrey.

Hopefully, he will be able to get back on track and be fully healthy when the 2025 campaign rolls around in a year.
