The Detroit Lions are set to begin their quest for the franchise's first Super Bowl this Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Rams at Ford Field, and the team is hoping to have running back Jahmyr Gibbs on the field for the game.

Gibbs has missed time this offseason due to a hamstring injury, but head coach Dan Campbell has provided multiple positive updates this week that suggest he will suit up in Week 1 versus the Rams.

On Monday, Campbell said that Gibbs wasn't among the team's injury concerns for the season-opener, and on Wednesday he noted that the second-year running back looked good when he returned to practice last week. Gibbs also revealed on Tuesday that he feels 98-100% following the injury and expects to play.

“I’m good, just had a little tweak,” Gibbs said, per ESPN's Eric Woodyard.

While that's all well and good, the injury reports this week will tell the full story of Gibbs' status. You can check out the daily practice report updates for Gibbs below.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Gibbs is not listed on the injury report at all, which means he was a full participant and is fully healthy ahead of Sunday.

Jahymr Gibbs Fantasy Football outlook

Gibbs is expected to split carries with fellow running back David Montgomery once again in 2024, but general manager Brad Holmes revealed earlier this offseason that Gibbs will see more work, especially in the passing game.

“I definitely would expect him to see more of a load,” Holmes said in May. “But David Montgomery will still be here too... I think (Gibbs) has much more to offer in the passing game, so most likely you’ll see an increase in that as well.”

Gibbs was already seeing heavy volume in the passing game last season (71 targets, 52 receptions), so Holmes comments are great news for his outlook.

After an RB10 overall finish in 2023 despite missing two games, Gibbs is an every-week starter and borderline RB1 with elite upside.
