The Jayden Daniels era begins in earnest on Saturday, with the Commanders opening up their three-game preseason slate against the Jets.
Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick in April's NFL Draft out of LSU, will draw his first career start. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is competing with veteran Marcus Mariota — a Heisman-winner himself, back in 2014 — for the starting gig.
"He's earned the right," Washington coach Dan Quinn told reporters when asked of the decision to start Daniels.

The Jets, meanwhile, will have to wait to watch their franchise quarterback in action. Aaron Rodgers, who missed virtually all of last season after rupturing his Achilles in Week 1, will not play in either of New York's first two preseason games.
Yet Rodgers is healthy, partaking as the first-team quarterback in practice, setting the stage for the Jets to try to end their 13-year playoff drought.
