New Orleans Saints, Derek Carr get brutal outlook in 2024 season projections

Expectations are low for the Derek Carr-led New Orleans Saints offense in 2024 despite some big names such as Alvin Kamara and a coordinator change.

When the starting quarterback is 33 years old and the rebuilding roster limped to a 9-8 finish last year, though, projections just don’t look kindly on a team.

Case in point, The Ringer’s Sheil Kapadia just projected the Saints to rank 24th in terms of offense next season:

“Last year, the Saints finished 17th in offensive efficiency. They got league-average injury luck but had the sixth-best turnover luck in terms of EPA lost on giveaways. New Orleans hired Klint Kubiak to replace Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator. Maybe Kubiak, who most recently was on Kyle Shanahan’s staff in San Francisco, will be good, but there’s no reason to think he’ll provide some kind of significant upgrade.”

There a kicker about the Saints in there from Kapadia, too: “Nothing makes me want to take a nap more than writing about the Saints offense. Boring. Irrelevant.”

To make matters worse for the Saints, the offensive line is a complete mess. First-round left tackle Taliese Fuaga is dealing with an injury and is expected to hold down the critical left tackle spot well right away. On the right edge, 2022 first-rounder Trevor Penning is in the process of possibly busting

Of course, this type of ranking and overall vibe of a team position the Saints to shock most onlookers if it all comes together well. But that will require good injury luck, some key performances in the trenches, and the veteran quarterback to play above well-earned expectations.
