Washington Commanders tabbed as great fit for WR on roster bubble before final cuts

It’s no secret the Washington Commanders might need some help at the wide receiver position around Jayden Daniels in 2024.

With the NFL cuts deadline coming up this week, that help could present itself, too.

Of the many names on roster bubbles leaguewide, Robert Woods is one who could help the Commanders offense, according to Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report:

“Woods is on the older side, but that doesn't mean that he isn't a useful player anymore. He still caught 40 passes for 426 yards and a touchdown which isn't bad production if he's being counted on as a third wide receiver.”

Woods, 32, would be a veteran presence for a depth chart featuring mostly younger wideouts in prominent spots for a coaching staff attempting to overhaul an entire program. Still, his presence might not feel all that different from that of 31-year-old veteran Jamison Crowder's for fans.

It’s hard to deny the Commanders needing help, though. They just traded former first-rounder Jahan Dotson, who was supposed to complement No. 1 Terry McLaurin. Rookie Luke McCaffrey gets most of the nods in the slot, while Dyami Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus also have roles to play.

While some fans might want to see the blockbuster Brandon Aiyuk trade, the Commanders seem much more likely to go after a low-risk veteran to stabilize the depth chart. That could be Woods or any number of players hitting the market soon, so he’s certainly one of many names to watch as the deadline approaches.
