Should Commanders make splash in free agency near final cuts with big name?

The Washington Commanders feel like one of those teams about to make a splash or two around final cuts leading up to the kickoff of Week 1.

Washington, after all, has undergone a massive overhaul at the start of the Dan Quinn era. That includes big roster turnover, including trading away former first-round picks that left “speechless” players giving interviews

It only makes sense, then, that the Commanders would go out and add more talent around final cuts, either via the waiver wire or free agency.

Case in point, Bleacher Report has suggested the Commanders go out and add edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue:

“Plus, it doesn't hurt that the eight-year veteran has had at least eight sacks in every season he's played in a minimum of 15 games.”

Ngakoue has been a bit of a journeyman since his days in Jacksonville, yet 69 sacks over 123 games is pretty hard to ignore and in 2022 alone, he put up another 9.5 over 15 games.

With a former first-round pass rusher firmly on the roster bubble for the Commanders as of this writing, adding some more depth makes sense. Ngakoue is the type of no-brainer signing who fits this idea, too, because he’ll sign late in the process as a low-risk, high-upside sort of rotational player.

While the Commanders already have some interesting depth names like Dante Folwer Jr. behind the big names like Daron Payne, someone like rookie Jer'Zhan Newton continues to battle injury, plus there’s really no such thing as too many good pass-rushers on an NFL roster these days.
