Carlo Ancelotti will come up against his former player Frank Lampard as a coach when Real Madrid host Chelsea in the 2022/23 Champions League quarter-finals.

Chelsea's interim manager played under Ancelotti between 2009 and 2011, with the pair winning a Premier League title together. The Italian ruled himself out of the permanent job the next season.

Real Madrid will be hoping to go deep in Europe this campaign to make up for a poor league campaign, where they are 13 points behind Barcelona in La Liga. Chelsea, on the other hand, are having a much more underwhelming domestic season, sitting 11th in the Premier League.

Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick in the quarter-final first leg against the Blues last season, and proceeded to score the winner in the second leg too.

Although no one can match Real Madrid's unbelievable record in European competitions, Chelsea can certainly be proud of their own. They have won the Champions League and Europa League twice in the past 11 years.

Ancelotti has won the Champions League four times, twice with Real Madrid and twice with AC Milan. No manager has been as successful in Europe as the Los Blancos manager.
