Another early-bird-gets-the-worm type of showdown is on the horizon for U.S. fans, with the USWNT meeting Sweden in the World Cup Round of 16.

LIVE: Updates, highlights from USWNT vs Sweden at 2023 Women's World Cup

Many who stayed up for the U.S. vs. Portugal match on Tuesday were left with fatigue and disappointment after the 0-0 draw allowed the Americans to just barely claim a spot in the knockout stages.

Facing Sweden is going to be a challenge. The Swedes have not lost yet. They led group G going 3-0 with nine points, as opposed to the U.S. clawing its way into second in group E with a 1-0-2 record and only five points.

A loss Sunday would be the earliest elimination in USWNT history — they've never done worse than third place, winning four of the nine editions of the Cup, including the last two back-to-back. Their worst defeat was 4-0 in 2007 to Brazil in that year's semifinals, and they still managed to come back and beat Norway for the bronze.
