The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't had 2024 third-round pick and wide receiver Roman Wilson at practice in a few weeks after he suffered a sprained ankle at practice late last month, but it appears he may return soon.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Wilson will "probably" be back in time for the preseason Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions next week, which would be huge for the rookie, who has missed significant practice time.

"He hurt his ankle, nothing serious, but he'll probably be back for the last preseason game," Dulac said on the Steve Jones Show.

Wilson has been spotted at practice on multiple occasions since suffering the injury. Most recently, he was seen catching passes off the JUGS machine.

The Steelers have been engaged in trade talks for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and for good reason. The team has several question marks at the position behind its No. 1 wideout, George Pickens.

Seeing as how he's a rookie, Wilson is one of those question marks, but he has a great opportunity to snag a significant role in his first season.

Aside from Wilson, the Steelers have Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins and Calvin Austin vying for roles. Jefferson is currently the favorite to line up on the outside opposite Pickens, and Austin figures to be in the lead for the slot role ahead of Wilson.

But as is the case with Jefferson and Watkins, Austin is no sure thing, so his being atop the depth chart in the slot isn't cemented and Wilson could certainly supplant him at some point.

Whatever the case may be, it appears we might get our first look at the rookie in live game action next week.
