The Pittsburgh Steelers' pursuit of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been a roller coaster ride for fans, with plenty of ups and downs. A new report from an NFL insider is yet another example of the latter.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Niners and the stud wide receiver "had another meeting" on Monday as they continue to talk about an extension and "talks continue to progress on a long-term extension."

The last we heard, Aiyuk and the Niners had hammered out the majority of a deal, but an agreement was held up by Aiyuk's displeasure with what the final year of the contract entailed, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

"Sources: The 49ers and WR Brandon Aiyuk had another meeting yesterday and talks continue to progress on a long-term contract extension," Schultz wrote on X. "There has been movement on a deal, but there are some minor details that still need to be ironed out with ownership approval."

Reports have suggested that the Steelers already have a deal in place with the 49ers and have a contract offer on the table for Aiyuk that is just south of $28 million per year. However, that offer apparently was enough to drive Aiyuk back to the negotiating table with the 49ers, per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

After it once looked like Aiyuk to the Steelers was inevitable, things have flipped and now it looks like Aiyuk staying in San Francisco is the most likely scenario. That said, with the way this situation has gone, nothing would be surprising.
