Television's (or streaming's) favorite soccer coach could make his grand return in the next few years.

The world hasn't seen the last of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond, as it was announced Saturday that a fourth season of the show is in the works. Originally envisioned as a three-season arc by "Ted Lasso" co-creator Jason Sudeikis, the idea of continuing the storyline was never fully out of the question after Season 3 concluded.

Sudeikis & Co. have amassed 13 Emmy's so far for the series, which became Apple+'s signature and most-watched original show after its release in August 2020.

Here's everything to know about the "Ted Lasso" Season 4 announcement, as the Apple+ series likely to return with the release date still undetermined.

Ted Lasso Season 4 rumors

An exclusive report from Deadline published Saturday revealed "Ted Lasso" studio Warner Bros. Television had picked up the options of three original cast members who had been contracted under the aegis of the UK acting union Equity.

The actors include Hannah Waddingham, or AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein, or hardhead Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift, who plays Leslie Higgins, beloved Director of Football Operations.

Reaching out to the trio is allegedly just the studio's first move, as it is expected to start appealing to cast members with SAG-AFRA contracts whose options had expired. New deals will need to be made with those actors—this could include Sudeikis, or Lasso himself, Brendan Hunt, and Juno Temple.

It is unclear who else will be reached out for a Season 4 appearance, but a writer's room is reportedly on its way to coming together. Nevertheless, a lot of the show's success rests on Sudeikis' cooperation.

One former "Ted Lasso" regular was ruled out Monday per a report from Matt Belloni—Phil Dunster, who plays footballer Jaime Tartt, is not expected to return for Season 4 due to scheduling conflicts. However, Belloni clarified that this only applies to Dunster as a series regular and doesn't exclude potential guest appearances.

Ted Lasso Season 4 release date

Deadline reports that if everything comes together, production on a fourth season could potentially begin in early 2025. That means Apple+ likely won't release any new episodes until at least the end of next year.
