Since transitioning from the Big 12 to the Big Ten more than a decade ago, Nebraska is still searching for success in a conference that begins a new journey this fall with four teams joining.

However, the Cornhuskers have begun to turn a corner thanks to coach Matt Rhule, who is entering his second full season in Lincoln.

Although the Cornhuskers did not earn the opportunity to play in Week 13 last year, they did show some flashes of prominence throughout the season. Finishing 5-7, Nebraska kept itself in Big Ten West title contention into November. Notable victories included a stretch where it beat Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue and Maryland to keep bowl hopes alive.

Unfortunately for Nebraska, it faltered once the season’s home stretch came around. The defense, which looked promising weeks prior, worked like a shell of its former self, losing four straight to end the season, including a walk-off field goal against Iowa on Black Friday.

As he enters his first season, highly-touted quarterback Dylan Raiola was named the starter on Aug. 21. The Cornhuskers bolster the 23rd-best recruiting class in the nation, according to 247 Sports.
