Washington Commanders dominate unexpected category in survey of NFL agents

To say the times have changed for the Washington Commanders might be a gross understatement.

Ahead of the 2024 season, the budding Dan Quinn era rides a high much different than the mids or lows that accompanied the onset of prior seasons.

Easily the biggest example right now is an anonymous poll of NFL agents from The Athletic’s Ben Standig, where the Commanders pop up multiple times as the team that had the best offseason:

“Commanders. The front office and coaching needed seismic changes. They were wise in free agency and drafted a quarterback (Jayden Daniels) at two. I do not see immediate success, but adding the required building blocks has begun.”

Another agent told Standig that the extent of the job in Washington makes Quinn and general manager Adam Peters the ideal pair: “Commanders. The front office and coaching needed seismic changes. They were wise in free agency and drafted a quarterback (Jayden Daniels) at two. I do not see immediate success, but adding the required building blocks has begun.”

And Peters? He popped up multiple times and near the top of the “best talent evaluator” list as a bonus.

Granted, this is just one data point to evaluate the Commanders as a whole right now. But fans understand all too well that the team is usually slotted in the “worst run” categories or similar annually alongside teams like the Carolina Panthers.

Instead, the Commanders are on a dramatic rise. And it makes sense that, from an agent’s perspective, it starts right at the top with the guys in charge of the culture and business side. It also probably doesn’t hurt that the offense has some foundational building blocks, starting front and center with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
