    Imane Khelif gender controversy

Khelif became the subject of global debate after her opponent, Italy's Angela Carini, withdrew from their round of 16 bout after just 46 seconds.

Questions over Khelif's eligibility to compete were raised following reports of a failed gender test at the World Championships last year.

Amid the fallout, the IOC were quick to defend Khelif, and Taiwan's Lin Yu-Ting, who had also been caught up in the storm.

Both athletes have remained in the competition, with Khelif to fight for gold, while Yu-Ting has qualified for the semi finals.

    Olympic boxing rules 2024

    • An Olympic boxing match is scheduled for three rounds of three minutes each. Rounds are separated by one-minute breaks.
    • Boxers score points by punching an opponent's head or torso. A boxer earns points for every successful hit to a target area.
    • Five judges sitting ringside evaluate the fight and give the boxers scores based on a 10-point system. The winner of the round receives 10 points, while the loser of the round can receive seven to nine points based on that boxer's performance.
    • A boxer can win based on point totals, but it is also possible to win via knockout (KO), disqualification (DSQ), a referee stopping the contest (RSC or RSC-I for injury) or a corner throwing in the towel (ABD).
