Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Erik ten Hag is on borrowed time as Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils head into the September international break on the back of a resounding 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool with just one victory in their opening three games of the Premier League season.

Ten Hag was infamously given a renewed opportunity as United boss, following success in the FA Cup final at the end of 2023/24, with victory of Manchester City.

The show of faith in ten Hag has split opinion amongst United fans, despite the club hierarchy backing him in the summer transfer market, and results continue to cause concern.

Mo Salah's fantastic individual performance underlined the gap between the two teams and the incoming international break will reignite speculation on ten Hag's position at the club.

Carragher was on punditry duty at Old Trafford and the ex-defender believes the club will not think twice if they look to move on from ten Hag.

"I don't think anything is going to change in terms of the football at Man United", as per reports from BBC Sport.

"I've seen this at Liverpool. Go back before Klopp came in when there was talk of Brendan Rodgers losing his job after a season.

"You expect something different, but the manager is the main man and Rodgers was gone by October. Ten Hag said in his interview 'we will see where we are at the end of the season', - I would be surprised if he is still there at the end of the season."

Two defeats from their opening three games of the new EPL season puts the pressure back on ten Hag with the Red Devils not back in action against Southampton on September 14.
