According to the Independent, Liverpool will have to cough up £80 million ($102m) plus add-ons to sign 23-year-old England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.

Gordon has come leaps and bounds last season for the Magpies, enjoying a stellar 2023-24 campaign in which he fired 12 goals in 48 outings across all competitions. This impressive form earned him a call-up to England's Euro 2024 squad, while it has also gained interest from Liverpool, who are believed to be the former Everton star's boyhood club.

The England winger, who has long desired a move to Anfield, was reportedly disturbed by being linked with Liverpool for £100 million ($128m) as the Geordies tried to raise funds before the end of June to avoid a potential PSR breach and points deduction.

The 23-year-old's existing contract is reported to expire in June 2026 and Newcastle are looking to open fresh contract talks to reward the player for his contributions last season and a newfound regular senior international status.

An outlay of £80m is justifiable, considering Gordon is one of the best wingers in the Premier League, as well as being versatile and incredibly tenacious off the back. It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool's front office decides that Gordon is quite worth that sum.
