Mo Salah has sparked renewed speculation over his Liverpool future following a starring role in their 3-0 weekend Premier League win over Manchester United.

Salah continued his incredible record against the Red Devils, with two assists and a goal at Old Trafford, to bring the Egypt international onto 18 goal involvements against United (12 goals, six assists).

However, it was his post-game comments which sparked the most attention at full time, as part of an interview with Sky Sports pundits Roy Keane and Daniel Sturridge.

Salah spoke about his expiring contract, and the 32-year-old indicated it could have been his last appearance at Old Trafford, with no current talks over an extension.

The Sporting News takes a look at the options on the table for Salah in 2025.

Mo Salah's Liverpool contract, salary, expiry

Salah signed a contract extension at Liverpool in 2022, which made him the club's highest-paid player, on a estimated £350,000 ($460,00) per week.

That expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, with the option to open free transfer talks with a non-Premier League team from the start of 2025, but he can not leave on a free until next summer.

Is Mo Salah staying at Liverpool?

Liverpool fans will be on red alert following Salah's interview at Old Trafford but his comments are more open ended than previously thought.

Salah did not definitively say this is his final Liverpool campaign with the key focus now on the club's ownership and their plan for renewal talks.

"I was coming to the game, I was saying, 'look, it could be the last time'. Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, 'OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season'.

"I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year."

Those comments will now ramp up the pressure on Liverpool to reach out over a new deal, following a lack of action, on Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are expected to offer Salah and van Dijk extensions, but the crucial question will be on how long, with Salah turning 33 and van Dijk 34 next summer.

The likelihood will be one-year extensions, with the option of a further year, but Salah is expected to request two years, with an optional third when talks start.

Saudi Pro League for Salah, transfer options

Salah has previously been linked with the Saudi Pro League after Liverpool rejected a club record £150m ($200m) offer from Al-Ittihad in 2023.

A move to the Middle East is an option, with the SPL able to offer Salah a higher wage than anywhere else, but it would mean stepping away from European competition for the first time since 2012.

With no transfer fee involved, Saudi clubs can offer Salah a world record salary, but his desire to keep competing in the UEFA Champions League remains key.

He will not move to another Premier League club, and with Real Madrid covered by Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and others, and move to the Spanish capital is not viable.

Paris Saint-Germain could revive their previous interest as the only realistic European destination for Salah in 2025.
