Poland and Netherlands kick off their Euro 2024 quest in a Group D match at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion on June 16.
Although the Dutch easily qualified, they haven't made a deep run in the European Championship in two decades. The 1988 European champions haven't reached the semifinals since 2004 despite routinely fielding one of the deepest and most dangerous teams.
Their road to rectify begins against a Polish squad that despite needing to qualify via playoff, enters on a five-match win streak. Poland's road through Group D which also includes France became more daunting with news that team captain and legendary striker Robert Lewandowski will miss the opener as he recovers from a thigh injury sustained last week. Lewandowski's status for the rest of the tournament remains questionable.
