Defending champion Novak Djokovic, fresh off a historic gold medal at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, faced a surprising third-round defeat at the 2024 US Open, falling 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6 to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin.

The Serbian, who clinched a historic gold at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, was aiming to become the first player in tennis history to secure 25 Grand Slam singles titles, but the 28th-seeded Popyrin had other plans.

Djokovic's unexpected exit follows on the heels of 2022 champion Carlos Alcaraz's stunning second-round loss at the same Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he was upset by Botic van de Zandschulp after winning titles at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier this year.

Here is everything you need to know about Novak Djokovic's appearance at the US Open, including the latest results from the tournament.
